The Identify Short Paper assignment outline and rubric state that we shall use Chapter 7 in Brown's Principles of Learning and Teaching on the role of culture in second language learning. Amazon.com says that the 5th edition of this book came out in 2006.
\n
\nThe book we were "required" to buy for the course is Brown's Teaching by Principles: An Interactive Approach to language Pedagogy 3rd Ed (2007). This appears to be a different book, although when one looks at the pictures of the book covers side-by-side, they are very similar, as if they are companions to each other...
\n
\nI bring this up because, in the REQUIRED text, Chapter 7 is called "teaching across proficiency levels" and does not appear to address "the role of culture" expect, perhaps, indirectly.
\n
\nNor have we been asked to read Chapter 7 yet - We have been asked to read Chapters 2 and 8 in Brown. Chapter 2 is A methodical history of language teaching, and Chapter 8 is Sociocultural, Political and Institutional Contexts.
\n
\nThe fact that the Identify Short Paper assignment is dated "Fall 2008" leads me to believe that it was not updated with regards to Brown Chapter 7.
\n
\nCan anyone please clarify what is expected from us on the Identify Short Paper with regards to this apparent inconsistency in referencing the work of Dr. Brown.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"26800551","dateCreated":"1283981763","smartDate":"Sep 8, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"dpsandahl","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/dpsandahl","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1283525859\/dpsandahl-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/nuwavedave.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/26800551"},"dateDigested":1532653372,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Which is better for our class - Wikispaces, Blogger or something else?","description":"Just wondering what the class thinks...
